The Challenge

When Summit Materials, a supplier of aggregates, cement, ready-mix concrete and asphalt in the U.S. and Canada, found itself faced with a unique asset maintenance challenge, it turned to TMW Systems for the solution. The company’s goals included increasing the number of stops and cases per route to enhance customer satisfaction, reducing the number of miles driven each day and ultimately cutting fleet size.

The Solution

 

Operating from 57 maintenance facilities across North America, Summit Materials implemented the comprehensive TMT Fleet Maintenance management solution to centralize and streamline in-house maintenance and repair operations. For the past year, the company also has used the TMT mobility app, Mobile Mechanic Workstation, at 35 of those locations to enable real-time management of remote service activity.

One of the reasons Summit Materials chose TMT Fleet Maintenance, Michael Coxie explained, was TMW’s development of a mobile app for remote mechanics. Coxie is the company’s business systems analyst. “Having access to data off site and the ability to automatically import information from remote service and repair activity were among the criteria we established when we started looking into maintenance software,” he related. “TMT Mobile Mechanic Workstation meets those needs very effectively.”

The mobile app enables remote access to information, accurately capturing and storing complete, date- and time-stamped data in real time, and eliminates the need for error-prone manual data entry that relies on a mechanic’s memory or hand written notes

The Result

“We have remote mechanics with service trucks and field mechanics that work on-site,” said Coxie.

“In locations where there is no cell service or Internet access, the mobile app stores the data until it can be synced with the software at one of our maintenance facilities,” he added.

“We were the first company to use TMT Mobile Mechanic Workstation so we had the opportunity to work closely with TMW Systems to test and refine the mobile app,” Coxie stated. “The result is a more streamlined and effective use of our TMT Fleet Maintenance software throughout our entire existing operation, and at new companies we are acquiring.”
