It was a critical juncture. In 1990, the use of a proprietary, sporadically supported dispatch system was one of the operational issues that kept C.A.T. Inc., from expanding and improving its business. While the previous 20-year span saw growth from 20 trucks to about 100, company leadership knew that there was much more to be done to further build, be competitive and profitable. The company had to expand its range and improve its quality of service to C.A.T. customers. A visionary president understood the make-or-break importance of properly managing information flow from a provider with a powerful dispatch system, solid development and reliable support capabilities. And, the search was on for a proven, scalable system.
After exhaustive research, C.A.T. Inc., based in Quebec province, chose an AS/400-based system, from TMW Systems. C.A.T. leadership noted the software’s power, stability and integration features as key to their decision.
TMW and its support team prepared C.A.T. to challenge market trends and become proactive in responding to customer needs. For example, C.A.T. implemented satellite tracking and EDI services in direct response to customer demand.
Soon after the transportation management software system was in place, C.A.T. installed TMT Fleet Maintenance. Now, all of the company’s maintenance data is entered just once; no repetitive entries into different systems. It cuts down on errors and saves time and effort with the single entry payables and single entry supplier approach.
Savings in empty miles and other metrics are processed-based and the company is getting the numbers need to improve their processes. C.A.T. expects to continue its growth by adding even more value for their customers.
